Did you know that anxiety disorders impact 18.1 percent of the population, but only 36.9 percent of sufferers receive treatment for this highly treatable disease? And depression is the leading cause of disability in the U.S., according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, CLOVE + HALLOW is bringing attention to these debilitating diseases. Mental health struggles are in our DNA: when our founder, Sarah Biggers, returned from a four-month trip to Southeast Asia years ago, she experienced daily panic attacks and depression (among a slew of other scary symptoms) that left her bedridden for six months. Only a holistic doctor was able to finally treat her, thanks to lifestyle changes including a new diet, exercise, and even a reset of her beauty regimen. After all, what we put on our bodies can impact our health almost as much as what we put in it. So when Sarah struggled to find clean makeup that performed as well as her favorite conventional brands, she decided to make her own. Months later, CLOVE + HALLOW was born.
Giving back to those suffering from mental health issues is just as important to us today as it was when Sarah first founded the brand—which is why we still donate 15 percent of any purchase of our Lip Crème in the shade Psych to the Georgia chapter of Mental Health America. We hope these contributions will not only help treat those afflicted, but also reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
