5 Ways to Treat Yourself This Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is all about showing love to your special someone, but what about showing the same for yourself? Whether you’re single, dating, married, or anywhere in-between, we think Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to pamper yourself! Here are a few ideas:

1. At-home facial. Steaming and massage.

If you don’t have time to run to the spa - and let’s be honest, who does? - you can give yourself a spa treatment from the comfort of your own home! For full impact, start with a facial steam. The easiest way to do this is to heat up water, lower your head until you feel a comfortable amount of steam, and cover your head/shoulders with a hand towel to keep the steam in. You can make this extra special by adding some dried flowers, herbs, and essential oils to the water. Next, apply a face mask. Choose wisely - it will have extra potency after steaming! After rinsing off your mask, begin a facial massage following along with this video for technique help. As long as you use gentle pressure, facial massage is relaxing and also helps drain facial lymph nodes.

2.Enjoy a long bath.

Cap off your spa-like experience with a warm bath. Beyond the mental relief that a good soak brings, the physiological benefits are plentiful: a reduction of inflammation and pain, increased blood flow, and regulation of body temperature. Spruce it up by lighting some candles and adding epsom salts and essential oils of your choice. You can even add a dollop of body lotion or oil to moisturize your skin, just be careful when stepping out of the bath because they might make the tub a bit slippery!

3. Get a massage.

If you can swing it, splurging on a good massage is the epitome of treating yourself. Whether you’re looking for light relaxation or deep tissue work on a particular area, any good masseuse will customize your massage so you walk away with a great experience. Make sure to drink lots of water afterwards while your lymphatic system continues to drain.

4. Send yourself flowers.

Flowers on Valentine’s Day is definitely a cliche, but who cares? Not only do they smell amazing, they also add uplifting color and a sense of grounding nature to any space. Instead of purchasing yours at a nearby grocery store, go all out and order a beautiful bouquet from your local florist. Not only will they arrive trimmed and arranged to perfection (hello, convenience!), this will also make them feel like a true gift instead of an afterthought item on your weekly shopping list.

5. Get a blowout.

If you’ve never had the chance to get a blowout (or maybe you’re skeptical if they’re even worth it), now is a good time to give it a try! Get a lovely scalp massage and complimentary glass of champagne before walking out the door looking like a million bucks.
